While there are many ways to make a model cinder cone volcano, one relatively simple way is using homemade salt dough or clay. A cinder cone volcano is a volcano of classic shape, where the steep sides have a relatively constant slope and the volcano's mountainous structure looks conical. The top of the summit has a bowl-shaped crater from its past eruptions.
There are several steps necessary to follow when creating a cinder core volcano.
Step 1: Make the eruption
First, take 60 milliliters of water, 1 tablespoon of baking soda, a few drops of orange food coloring and 1/4r cup of white vinegar and mix them together in a small plastic water bottle. Wrap about 1 tablespoon of baking soda in a small square tissue, and place it aside. When you're ready to erupt the volcano, place the baking soda inside the bottle, and the volcano will erupt with the orange solution.
Step 2: Create the conical structure
To create the shape of a cinder cone volcano, take some salt dough and wrap the bottle entirely, so it looks like a cone. The top of the bottle, without the lid, makes the bowl-shaped crater. To make the dough, mix 6 cups of flour, 2 cups of salt, 4 tablespoons of cooking oil and 2 cups of water. The erupted solution will pour around the conical shape of the volcano.
