Florida Virtual School is an online school that provides both full-time and part-time educational experiences for students within and outside the State of Florida. The school has a website for K-8 students as well as a website for the virtual online high school. Florida residents may take courses for free.
As of 2015, the Florida Virtual School district is accredited by Advance Education, Inc., and the individual schools within the system are accredited by the Southern Association of College and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement.
Courses in the online high school come in the usual categories of mathematics, science, social studies, language arts and others. Examples of course subjects within these categories include economics and financial literacy, anatomy and physiology, math for college readiness, English and marine science. Honors are attached to some of these courses. There is also a wide selection of electives in subjects such as career research and decision making, forensic science, leadership skills development and law studies. The high school awards diplomas upon successful completion of the program.
The K-8 school includes the core subjects found in a typical school. Students participate in classes in real-time online classrooms and have the opportunity to meet with other students on field trips.
