Primarily aimed towards children but usable by new typists at any age, UltraKey features 14 typing lessons that comprehensively instruct users on how to type. Individuals can work through the lessons at their own pace.
The software uses goals to provide incentives for new typists and celebrates new typing milestones such as new high accuracy percentages. Although UltraKey does not feature typing games, it uses this goal-based structure to encourage forward progress.
Each of the 14 lessons centers on a group of key and includes several typing lessons that focus on building accurate keystroke memory piece by piece. At the end of the UltraKey program, users move from thinking about individual keystrokes to fluent touch typing.
The best way to proceed through UltraKey is to take the initial pre-assessment, and then start working through the individual lessons. The program's in-depth progress reporting makes it easy to track the user's progress. After each lesson, the user can examine not only the number of errors, but also the number of wrong keys, missed keys and incorrectly inserted keys. UltraKey keeps an ongoing record of the user's performance by key, adjusted words per minute and accuracy percentage through a number of cumulative reports.
