To use a Promethean ActivBoard, connect it to a personal computer through its VGA cable to the computer USB port or through a wireless connection, available with some ActivBoards. Once connected and calibrated, the ActivBoard projects whatever is on the computer screen to the whiteboard. Teachers and students can then move and manipulate objects on the surface of the board with a digital pen or their fingers, controlling the computer from the board.
The ActivBoard Touch lets up to six students work together using a variety of multi-touch movements, including swipe, pinch and zoom, to manipulate content on the board. Using the digital pen, students and teachers are able to write, annotate and hover over items, in addition to other generally available touch-screen commands. The digital pen makes it possible to change colors so that each student's work is easily identifiable. The ActivBoard 500 Pro allows for four students working simultaneously and includes built-in speakers for lessons with both audio and visual content. Promethean ActivBoards also work as regular dry erase boards.
ActivBoard's many features include adjustable board height, a tools section with various teaching tools such as animated dice and Venn diagrams, and an online resource and support website, Promethean Planet.
