Some universities in the USA where an IELTS score is not required for getting admission are the State University of New York-Albany, University of New Orleans, University of Dayton, University of Arkansas and University of Iowa. Students may qualify for conditional admission and must register for an IELP.
A few other American universities that offer admissions without IELTS score include California State University, Drexel University, University of Missouri, University of Wisconsin and University of North Texas. Acceptance of students to these universities in such cases is termed as conditional acceptance, and they are given the I-20 during registration that permits them to stay in the United States as international students.
In addition, students taking admission without IELTS scores in these universities must register for the Intensive English Language Program, or IELP, when applying for admission. IELP is a university-level integrated preparatory language program that teaches reading, writing, speaking, listening, vocabulary, grammar and punctuation in the English language.
This course amounts to approximately nine to 12 credit hours and costs approximately $5,000 to $12,000. Since extra courses and credit hours are involved, students take more time to graduate. Through the IELP program, students may earn university credits provided they fulfill all other admission requirements and pass the test. Some of these universities may also require students to clear IELTS or TOEFL after completing the IELP program.
