UnitedStreaming, a subscription-based provider of educational video streaming services and content to more than 70,000 schools in the United States, delivered on-demand services from Discovery Education prior to 2006. A division of Discovery Communications, Discovery Education produced and distributed high-quality digital content, formatted for different age levels and sorted across curriculum areas.
UnitedStreaming offered more than 5,000 full-length videos in its resource library, segmented into 50,000 content-specific downloadable clips. In 2006, Discovery Education partnered with PBS to expand the service, adding the Ken Burns documentaries, including "The Civil War," and other series from the PBS collection. Discovery went on to provide professional development, standards-aligned lessons for teachers, and other services, eventually changing the name of the service to DiscoveryStreaming.
Now part of the Discovery Education network of services, DiscoveryStreaming Plus includes instructional support aligned to the Common Core Standards, a variety of assessment tools designed to engage students in critical thinking and collaboration skills. It also provides students with tools and resources that encourage them to create their own content. As of 2015, DiscoveryStreaming Plus delivers thousands of resources that are designed to improve student achievement.
The partnership with PBS allowed DiscoveryStreaming to add teacher resources from its TeacherSource collection, including nearly 3,000 lesson plans, teacher guides and homeschool suggestions.
