Computer classes offered online include courses for a wide range of skills from an introduction to computer science, computer graphics and network security, as well as courses that teach skills related to the use of advanced coding languages. Some online courses cover commonly used software applications and programming. Online learners can use these classes for personal development or professional skills training purposes.
One example of an online computer course is CS50: Introduction to Computer Science, a free class available through edX. This class follows the content of a traditional Harvard University course and introduces students to the basics of computer science. Students study various computer-related topics, such as operating systems, data structures, debugging, computer forensics, networking and algorithms. As of September 2015, this class is free to registered users on the edX site.
Another online computer course, Computer System Architecture, is offered through the MIT OpenCourseWare project. This class introduces students to computer architecture as well as the design of hardware and software for computer systems. Topics in this class include set design, processor micro-architecture, virtual memory organization and data protection.
Other options for online computer courses found through MIT OpenCourseWare teach network and computer security. Courses on Java and C++ programming languages are also available.
