Houston Community College offers over 100 programs in many popular fields, including Nursing, Computer Science, Audio/Video Technology, and Engineering. Associate degrees are available for many fields, and many other programs provide an official certification upon completion.
Houston Community College has degree programs in 14 categories for the 2014-2015 school year. Some fields are certification heavy, such as Architecture & Construction and Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources. Although many of these fields require a Bachelor's degree at a four-year institution in order to fully qualify for careers in the field, certifications can be useful for proving knowledge and mastery of the material.
Fields with a high number of Associate degrees include Health & Medical Sciences, Arts, and Audio/Video Technology & Communications, along with Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics. While Associate degrees are often only a stepping stone to a higher degree, many Associate degrees are transferable to major universities and reduce the amount of coursework required for a Bachelor's degree. Some fields even offer a transfer specialization designed to incorporate as many transferable classes as possible to avoid needing to retake a required class.
Houston Community College also offers substantial financial aid, advising and planning for program personalization, and many plans have multiple options to tailor the program to a student's individual needs.
