MIT offers some of the most substantial resources for online learning through its OpenCourseWare program, featuring over 2,000 courses for free. The classes are all actual MIT courses that have been offered on campus, complete with lectures, assignments, exams and notes. Many of the courses offer lessons in multimedia formats, including text, audio and video. MIT offers courses in a huge variety of subjects, including economics, media arts, architecture and physics. The site also offers support for other languages, including English and Chinese.
Yale University’s Open Yale Courses program offers a variety of introductory classes for free online. The courses do not offer credit, but users can access lectures in audio, video or text format. Courses also feature supplementary material such as readings, quizzes, exams and other resources. Open Yale Courses offers classes across a range of subjects, including English, music, political science and psychology.
Tufts University also offers a generous selection of free, non-credit courses through its own OpenCourseWare program. Primarily focused on the sciences, Tufts offers courses in dentistry, medicine, nutrition, veterinary medicine and more. Most courses include lectures, reading assignments, homework and other notes.
