How Do You Train Yourself to Pay Attention to Detail?

Attention and focus are important in every daily task. In order to increase attention to detail, a person should try to eliminate distractions, stress and fatigue from his day.

  1. Turn off external distractions

In order to concentrate, it is important to avoid distractions. A person should switch off phones, turn off any music and refrain from checking emails. If possible, retreat to a quiet area to minimize the chances of being interrupted or distracted by external sounds.

  2. Avoid stress

Stress can inhibit the ability to focus. Avoiding things that cause stress allows a person to have a better level of attentiveness.

  3. Prevent fatigue

Tiredness and fatigue can reduce the ability to focus attention. Rest and recharge the body by getting at least seven or eight hours of sleep each night. When a person is very tired, the body cannot produce brain chemicals such as dopamine and adrenaline, which are chemicals that aid in attention. Lack of sufficient sleep decreases concentration levels, leading to a shorter attention span.

  4. Use reminders

In order to help keep focused on what is important, use reminders. Post-it notes placed around a cubical help remind a person not to let his attention wander and to stay focused on the task at hand.
