Some of the top art colleges in the United States, as of June 2015, are Rhode Island School of Design and School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Both schools ranked highly in the 2012 graduate rankings by U.S. News & World Report.
Rhode Island School of Design was founded in 1877. It offers a variety of undergraduate, graduate and certificate programs that combine art studio work with a liberal arts education. Departments include ceramics, illustration, painting and graphic design.
School of the Art Institute of Chicago was founded in 1866 and is affiliated with the museum known as the Art Institute of Chicago. The college offers courses in fields such as art history, fashion design, historic preservation and sculpture.
Other U.S. art colleges include Cranbrook Academy of Art, California Institute of the Arts and Maryland Institute College of Art.
