According to TheBestColleges.org's Top 50 Colleges and Universities in America for 2015 rankings, some of the top 50 colleges for 2015 are Liberty University, Yale University, the California Institute of Technology, the College of William and Mary and the University of Virginia. Princeton University ranks number one on the list.
Some of the factors that TheBestColleges.org uses to determine rankings include a college or university's academic quality, student satisfaction, economic value and the quality of life found within the surrounding community. As to a school's academic quality, the website looks to factors such as the student-to-faculty ratio, whereas it measures student satisfaction partly by means of enrollment, graduation and retention rates. The website generally favors schools in areas with a low cost of living but that possess a youth-friendly atmosphere and that are populated by well-to-do, educated people. Economic factors include financial aid and tuition rates.
In addition to Princeton University, the other four of the top five colleges and universities on the list are Harvard University, Swarthmore College, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the College of William and Mary. Numbers 46 through 50 belong to Columbia University, Georgetown University, Washington University in St. Louis, Middlebury College and Emory University, respectively.
