Some surgical assistant schools include Macomb Community College, Vincennes University, Wayne County Community College (Western Campus), Tulsa Technology Center and University of Cincinnati (Clermont College). These institutions are categorized as public, primarily associate's public or private, and they vary from two-year to four-year.
Surgical schools offer courses and expertise on assisting surgeons before, during and after surgery. The institutions teach assisting skills, surgical procedure and anatomy. It is a requirement that students already have a degree in a related field before entering an accredited surgical assisting program.
Students from surgical assistant schools have to accredit by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. This commission is also mandated to offer surgical assistant license and graduation from an accredited school as a prerequisite for certification by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting, or NBSTSA.
