Turninin is an online submission manager and plagiarism detector for classrooms. The program offers a range of resources for students, including a student home page and class portfolio, digital assignment submission with paper confirmation, an originality report and access to instructor feedback.
While those in the education field may be familiar with Turnitin as a plagiarism detection service, the program offers many additional resources that benefit students. The student home page is a hub where students can view all their classes that use the program, and the class portfolio displays the assignments a teacher has posted in each class as well as which assignments a student has submitted.
Once students submit a paper or assignment, they receive a digital receipt of submission via email. This receipt is helpful in case there is any question as to whether the student submitted the assignment, especially if an assignment accidentally gets deleted or overlooked.
The program also offers an originality report that students can utilize to make sure they have properly credited all of their sources, which helps prevent accidental plagiarism. Once an instructor has graded students' papers, students can view the feedback directly on the original documents they submitted. Feedback may appear in comment bubbles, in-line text or even via audio, depending on the instructor's grading preferences.
