Starfall uses games, songs and other activities to teach reading. The program begins with simple letter recognition and works up to reading and comprehending stories.
Starfall uses a phonics-based approach to teach reading skills. This approach teaches a child to recognize letter sounds and how they combine to make words. As the child advances in the program, he begins to read short stories to increase word recognition and overall reading comprehension. At the final level, the child reads longer material that includes plays, stories and informational texts. This material uses a controlled vocabulary and allows the child to practice recognition of high-frequency words and to improve his reading fluency.
