Special education certificates give teachers additional specialized training, beyond that of a general teaching certificate, to address the needs of children needing supplemental and more complex tutelage. Teachers often get special education certificates as part of a Master's or continuing education program. Upon certification, they work with students in many age ranges, from elementary school through college.
With a special education certificate, teachers may find work in private and public schools. They may also work in educational facilities for the disabled, such as schools for the blind and deaf. Educators may train to help students with learning disabilities in a broad range of subjects, or they may specialize in one or two areas.
