The University of Oklahoma's official mascot is the Sooner Schooner, which is a replica of the covered wagon used by Oklahoma settlers during the Land Run of 1889. The Schooner is pulled by two horses named Boomer and Sooner.
The RUF/NEKS, an OU male spirit club, drive the Sooner Schooner. During home, championship and bowl games for football, they drive almost to the 50-yard line after every score. The driver rides with the RUF/NEKS Queen while another member hangs off the back waving a school flag. Additionally, OU has two costumed horse mascots named Boomer and Sooner who made their debut at the OU Big Red Rally in 2005. The pair attends school and charity events, and they wear football and basketball uniforms when they attend games.
