Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States during the 19th century. He led the United States during the Civil War, and his actions helped end slavery, save the Union and modernize the economy. Lincoln was largely self-educated, and before becoming president, he was a lawyer in Illinois. He also served in the Illinois House of Representatives for 12 years. In his iconic speech, the Gettysburg Address, Lincoln supported the concepts of nationalism, republicanism, equal rights, liberty and democracy.
The current Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, is the 14th Dalai Lama, as of 2016. Traditionally, the Dalai Lama is a monk from the "Yellow Hat" school of Tibetan Buddhism. In this school of Buddhism, the Dalai Lama is the successor from a line of tulkus who are believed to be reincarnated forms of the Bodhisattva of Compassion.
