Why Is Secondary Research Used?

According to the University of Florida, secondary research is more cost effective and reduces the time requirement of primary research. Particularly for historical research, secondary research provides a background of information on which to build research.

The University Library, part of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, states that secondary research sources are those that do not provide an original account. These sources come from previous publications such as books and journal. This research is useful to create new analyses of existing topics.

Secondary research data is also helpful in contributing to new studies with existing polls, experimental data or survey data. This type of research is especially helpful to students with limited funding.
