The University of Southern California (USC) is the top-ranked physical therapy school, as of 2015. It offers a program leading to a doctorate in physical therapy through its division of biokinesiology and physical therapy, which was founded in 1945. The program trains students how to treat patients and work with other health professionals in patient care. USC also offers four physical therapy residencies: orthopedic, sports, neurologic and pediatric physical therapy. Students in these residences learn advanced skills in their chosen specialty.

The physical therapy program at the University of Delaware is a 2 1/2 year program that includes six different clinical internships. The school has two on-site physical therapy clinics that provide students with hands-on training in areas such as sports medicine, pediatrics and orthopedics.

Other highly ranked schools for physical therapists include Emory University, MGH Institute for Health Professions, Northwestern University, University of Miami and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, states U.S. News & World Report.
