The Virtual Design and Construction Institute, Tooling University and the Associated General Contractors Education Foundation are just a few of the many schools that offer online blueprint training courses. Individuals taking such courses should make sure the school's program is certified in the state in which they work.
The ability to read blueprints is necessary to move beyond most entry-level construction, machining and facilities jobs. Blueprints provide a 2-dimensional view of 3-dimensional geometric objects, construction sites and so on. As such, they use a lot of specific markings and abbreviations to convey the differing perspectives. Blueprints must also be presented and often explained to city or county agencies that oversee the relevant type of construction.
