Located in Los Angeles, the University of Southern California ranks as the top game design program, thanks to its substantial endowment and the variety of game design degrees available. USC offers two bachelor’s degrees and two master’s degrees in game design, with a focus on either art and design or programming. The school also offers a variety of video game design minors.
The University of Utah is found in Salt Lake City, home of major game companies such as EA Sports. The school offers both arts and programming courses, with both its undergraduate and graduate programs ranking highly. The school’s proximity to prominent game companies provides students with professional internship opportunities, and the University of Utah attracts students from all over the world.
One of the older game design schools in the United States, the DigiPen Institute of Technology is located in Redmond, Washington, the U.S. home of Nintendo. The school maintains a close relationship with Nintendo, receiving funding in order to train new generations of game design professionals. Offering both graduate and undergraduate degrees, the school also has campus locations in Singapore, Spain and South Korea.
