Some university-affiliated schools that offer flying lessons are Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, the University of North Dakota and Sierra Academy of Aeronautics. Other independent flight schools include the Premier Flight Academy in Akron, Ohio; Waterwings Seaplane School in Alabaster, Alabama; Zephyr Air Academy in Beatrice, Nebraska; and the United States Aviation Flight Academy in Denton, Texas.
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University offers bachelor's degrees, master's degrees and continuing education programs at two residential campuses: one in Daytona Beach, Florida, and one in Prescott, Arizona. As of 2016, Embry-Riddle also has 94 learning centers and 39 teaching locations that offer continuing education programs around the United States. Many of these campuses are near military installations, but it is not necessary to be a member of the military to enroll in the university. Embry-Riddle offers independent study options and may award up to 36 credit hours to pilots, air traffic controllers or others who have prior aviation experience. The university also offers a degree in aviation business management.
Sierra Academy of Aeronautics is affiliated with Golden State University where students can earn a bachelor's degree in aviation operations and management. Students learn to fly at Sierra Academy and apply all flight training time towards college credit at Golden State University.
