Rutgers University is located in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The New Jersey Experimental Agriculture Station runs the integrated pest management program. The four-hour core training program provides basic information for students who want to become a licensed pest control operator in New Jersey. Topics covered in the training include federal pest control regulations, the New Jersey Pesticide Control Act, proper handling of pesticides and potential hazards. Courses are available in English or Spanish.
Purdue University is located in West Lafayette, Indiana. Entomologists at the university developed the integrated pest control management courses. Students can take the courses by correspondence or online. Course topics include urban and industrial pest management, public building and landscape pest management, invasive borers, termites and bedbugs. Students can use courses taken through Purdue University to obtain pest control certification in select other states.
Clemson University is located in Clemson, South Carolina. The university offers apprentice termite technician training, master termite technician training and master pest control technician training. Students attend classes at the Sandhill Research and Education Center in Columbia, South Carolina. Most classes average about 20 students. Courses include classroom and field training components.
