As of July 15, 2015, the American Society of Anesthesia Technologist and Technicians no longer offers certifications for anesthesia technicians and no longer approves programs that prepare students to become anesthesia technicians. Only certifications for anesthesia technologist are offered.
The anesthesia technologist certification requires a two-year degree or at least two years of equivalent work experience as an anesthesia technician in order to sit for the certification exam. After July 15, 2015, prospective technologists must complete the degree program regardless of prior work experience.
As of July 2, 2015, ASATT has approved 10 programs to prepare students to take the anesthesia technologist certification exam.
