Full Answer

Reading Plus is a web-based reading program for students in grades three or above that provides reading assessment, instruction and progress monitoring. The assessment program InSight measures a student's reading capacity and efficiency by evaluating comprehension, vocabulary and reading rate, and determines the student's motivation to read. The program then designs an individualized plan to improve the student's reading by targeting comprehension, vocabulary or speed, or by providing interesting reading materials and recognition to encourage the student to read. The program provides students and teachers with progress monitoring through weekly assessments, and alerts teachers when their students are struggling.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools conducted a study in 2011 through 2012 to determine the effectiveness of the Reading Plus program in grades three to 10. Miami-Dade Public Schools found that over the 2010 to 2011 and 2011 to 2012 school years, classes reported significant improvements in reading abilities after using the Reading Plus program, compared to similar programs, such as Destination, Odyssey and Successmaker. Additional studies on the effectiveness of Reading Plus for post-secondary students have demonstrated significant improvements in reading comprehension and efficiency for college students and adults.
