Each scholarship application has its own unique requirements. However, a typical scholarship application requires a student to provide contact information, educational history, financial information, essay questions and letters of recommendation.
Every application requires general contact information such as name, address, phone number and email. For multiple-page applications, scholarship committees suggest that students put some form of contact information on each page in the event that pages get lost or separated. Most applications also ask for educational background and history, including the high school attended or currently attending, year of graduation, grade point average and any academic awards or honors. Applications may require an official transcript as well as official documentation of SAT or ACT scores. Need-based scholarships often require applicants to prove financial need. Financial forms such as parental tax returns and pay stubs may be required.
The essay question portion of the application helps the scholarship committee learn more about the applicant. Essay questions require a student to comment on educational and career goals. Committees require students to submit one or more letters of recommendation along with the application. The application may specify who the letters come from, or the student can choose who should write them. Typically, committees ask for recommendation letters from teachers, counselors, professors or work supervisors.
