The ability to think critically is essential to mastering the SAT exam. In the math section, students use arithmetic operations and critical reasoning to answer questions covering algebra, geometry, probability and statistics. Verbal reasoning is tested with critical reading questions that ask students to read printed texts and answer questions about their content. To assess how well students can construct an argument and whether they have a strong command of English language conventions, the exam includes an essay and several multiple-choice writing questions.
