Rustic Pathways provides travel and service programs for students and families that allows them to visit countries throughout the world. The organization works to empower students through travel and offers them experiences that are safe, responsible and innovative. The goal of Rustic Pathways is to ensure that its student travelers make a positive impact on the communities they visit.
Rustic Pathways offer programs that can be taken during the summer, semester or gap year. Students can use the travel to immerse themselves in the lives of a new culture or to volunteer with local community service projects. The vision of the organization is to make travel be used as a method of sustainable development, an essential part of a student's education and to connect people throughout the world.
As of 2015, Rustic Pathways has programs in 18 different countries. Students interested in Asia can choose programs in Burma, Cambodia, China, India, Laos, Mongolia, Thailand or Vietnam. Those interested in travel to Africa have the option to visit Ghana, Morocco or Tanzania. Students wishing to see the American continents can choose from Costa Rica, Peru and the United States. Rustic Pathways also has programs in Australia and the islands of Cuba, Dominican Republic and Fiji. Programs are categorized according to several different topics of focus, such as aspiring doctors, first-time travelers, language enthusiasts or service buffs.
