What Is a Reflective Analysis?

A reflective analysis is a type of essay in which the writer discusses an experience in detail and explains how he or she has progressed throughout that experience; relevance of the experience to any future goals is also included. The analysis exposes strengths and weaknesses and gives the writer an opportunity to discuss how to improve in the future.

This kind of assignment is often part of a portfolio and may require the student to assess his or her experience during a class or project completed. It usually includes an introduction that overviews the student's success or failure and the goals set, a body that shows how the student progressed during the experience, specific examples showing the growth and a conclusion that sums up the student's growth.
