The purpose of the NYC School Survey is for New York City school leaders to learn about the city's public schools. The survey is one of many tools the New York City Department of Education uses to measure each school’s capacity for improvement.
New York City parents, students and teachers complete the survey each year. Results of the survey are used to create a citywide report and school-level reports for each school. The reports are meant to drive conversation at each school community about how to achieve improvements.
The survey focuses on six essential elements, according to the NYC Department of Education. They are rigorous instruction, supportive environment, collaborative teachers, effective school leadership, strong family and community ties, and trust.
