Prominent film schools are located around the world, though many of the most prominent films schools are located close to the heart of the U.S. film industry in California. Some prominent global film schools include the American Film Institute, the University of Southern California and the Beijing Film Academy.
Some of the major film schools are located in Los Angeles, California. Many of these film schools employ instructors who are also prominent industry members. The American Film Institute is an extremely selective film school. Prominent AFI alumni include Terrence Malick and David Lynch. The University of Southern California is a larger film school, with alumni such as George Lucas and Ron Howard.
New York houses one prominent film school, the New York University Tisch School of the Arts. Tisch School alumni include Martin Scorsese, Oliver Stone and Joel Coen. It is located on an urban campus in the middle of Manhattan.
There are also many prominent international film schools, though they mostly serve students from their own countries. These schools include the Beijing Film Academy in China; the National Film and Television School in Beaconsfield, England; La Fémis in Paris, France; and the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, Czech Republic.
