PruittHealth partners with Care2Learn, an online university, to provide licensing, continuing education and inservice courses to its medical staff members. Care2Learn's list of accredited courses covers several disciplines, including dementia care, marketing, social work and health care administration.
Sherry Johnson, the director of clinical development for PruittHealth, adopted the Care2Learn education system in 2008. Staff members complete prerequisite courses online through the PruittHealth University portal and attend live workshops. According to Johnson, the format "re-establishes a baseline of knowledge" for employees, which is necessary given the complexity of the health care system.
Care2Learn offers more than 500 accredited courses in more than 15 disciplines, as of August 2015. PruittHealth employees can search available courses or download the course catalog on the university website, located at Care2LearnU.com.
Care2Learn courses are designed to meet license requirements, educate employees about regulatory changes and introduce new skills or methods. The core course library is divided into continuing education courses and inservices. Inservice courses do not give continuing education or licensing credit but offer valuable information to help front-line staff members understand and overcome health care challenges, such as communicating with the elderly or disaster preparedness. Care2Learn also offers premium multimedia courses and a variety of SmartTeam courses, which build teamwork, improve office skills and promote positive life choices.
