In order to procure a Child Development Associate certificate online, you must choose the work setting and follow the competency standards associated with that work setting. Once you complete the standards, you may apply for the CDA assessment test. Passing the test results in the award of your certification.
The Council for Professional Recognition states the first step in procuring a Child Development Associate certification online is to determine the type of work setting. A high school diploma is necessary to begin the training necessary to complete the credentials required for the chosen work setting. The work setting options include preschool, infant and toddler, family childcare and home visitor settings.
Each setting requires a certain number of hours in professional education training. You also need a set number of professional experience hours. Professional experience training requires classroom time and hands-on experience that accompanies your education hours. Obtaining the certificate online requires you to coordinate your professional experience hours with a local school board and have those hours approved by your online school.
You need to verify that the online training you attend is state certified and accredited and meets the standards of that state for you to become certified in child development.
