How do you practice for the ASWB exam?

Quick Answer

As of 2015, the most comprehensive way to practice for the Association of Social Work Boards exam is to purchase the 170-question practice test available through the ASWB website. The website also offers the ASWB Guide to the Social Work Exams, a resource that contains content study guides, information about the test's production, and tips and advice about minimizing test anxiety. A third option is the ASWB LCSW Exam Prep application, which is available from Pocket Prep, Inc. on iTunes.

Only registered candidates can purchase the ASWB practice exam online. Versions of the practice exam are available for the bachelor's, master's and clinical exam categories, but a practice version is not available for the advanced generalist exam. On purchasing the practice test, candidates have access for 30 days, which includes four hours for actually answering the questions. After completing the questions, candidates receive a score report detailing their performance in the different content areas.

Candidates should be aware that the questions on the online ASWB practice test for each category are the same questions as those on the ASWB Group Review Practice Test offered at accredited social work schools. Students who have already taken that year's Group Review Practice Test should not purchase the online exam for this reason.

When downloading the ASWB LCSW Exam Prep app on iTunes, exam candidates should ensure that it is the most recent version. As of December 2015, ASWB LCSW Exam Prep 2015 is the latest available version.
