Many of the top colleges in the state of Georgia are also popular Atlanta-area colleges, including Georgia Institute of Technology, Morehouse College and Emory University. Georgia State University and Kennesaw State University are also popular with students.
Georgia Institute of Technology, commonly called Georgia Tech, is located in downtown Atlanta. This public university is also one of the top universities in the country. Morehouse College is a predominantly black liberal arts college for males. Martin Luther King is one of its most famous alumni.
A private research university, Emory has a highly selective admissions policy. Regarded as one of the nation's top universities, it has both a medical and law school. Also located in downtown Atlanta, Georgia State was founded in 1913. Undergraduates may choose from more than 200 majors at this public university.
Though not established until 1963, Kennesaw is, as of 2015, the third largest university in Georgia. It is situated in Cobb County, part of Atlanta's metropolitan area.
