Florida has several acting schools that are standalone institutions along with a few that are part of larger post-secondary learning centers, colleges or universities. The Acting School of South Florida in Hollywood, Venue Actors Studio in Pinellas Park, Showcase Acting Studio in Orlando and Florida State University in Tallahassee all offer acting programs for students of varying ages. Florida State's program is degree-based, whereas the others are based on extracurricular instruction by certified acting and voiceover professionals.
Many acting schools also focus on other aspects of the film industry and process. Florida State's two-year intensive program shows students with a general interest in directing or cinematography how to create Hollywood-style productions while focusing on a broader performance curriculum as well. University Center for the Performing Arts gives acting classes in theatre and film, but also provides instruction in jazz, hip hop, ballet and flamenco dancing.
Acting classes for children and teenagers are also prevalent in Florida. Next Generation Kids in Casselberry provides a wide variety of singing, dancing, acting and piano classes for kids from ages 3-18. ArtStage, Inc., is a performing arts studio in Jupiter that helps students prepare for auditions to acting and arts schools across the state. ArtStage also provides need-based financial aid to students that cannot afford its classes.
