A person who lives to be 100 years old is called a centenarian. While some people believe that life choices such as diet and activity level can help a person to reach this unusual milestone in life, good genetics are also necessary.
The number of centenarians has been steadily growing since 1990, when the world had 95,000 people over the age of 100. The number of centenarians is expected to increase to 3.7 million by the year 2050. Currently, the United States is home to the largest portion of centenarians.
When a person reaches the remarkable milestone of turning 110 years old, that person is known as a supercentenarian. Even fewer people live past this point.
