According to a table published in 2012, the percentage of people who speak Spanish in Mexico is 98.5 percent, states Spanish Language Domains. Spanish is not designated as an official language in legislation; this is due to efforts to preserve the many indigenous languages spoken in Mexico.
Around 100 indigenous languages are still spoken in Mexico. Eighty percent of Mexicans who speak an indigenous language also speak Spanish. There are more Spanish speakers living in Mexico than any other country in the world. English, German, Arabic and French are among other languages spoken in Mexico; those who speak these languages are often immigrants or their descendants.
