According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, approximately 65.9 percent of students graduating high school in the spring attended college the following fall in 2013. The percentage of students attending college has decreased from the 2007 statistics of 70.1 new high school graduates opting for college.
More than 21 million students are enrolled in college as of fall 2014, though, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. Approximately 7 million students attend two-year colleges whereas approximately 13 million attend four-year colleges or universities. In 2014, female students outnumbered male college students by 3 million, according to the NCES.
