PARCC test samples are task prototypes and sample questions that are conceptually similar to items that may occur on future PARCC assessments. PARCC test samples are not practice tests.
Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers test samples are meant to provide educators with examples of how crucial elements of Common Core State Standards may appear on PARCC tests. Common Core State Standards are academic benchmarks denoting what students should learn and know by a certain grade.
As of 2015, 43 states adhere to Common Core State Standards as part of the Common Core State Standards Initiative. Since there is no Common Core test per se, state school systems that adhere to Common Core State Standards administer their own assessment tests based upon curriculum that is aligned to Common Core Standards, or they administer the PARCC.
Common Core State Standards are not a form of curriculum, though developers and manufacturers of learning tools, such as textbooks, have begun to produce tools that agree with Common Core Standards. Thus, educators use PARCC test samples as guides to determine what they should teach students and what level of proficiency students should attain in order to be competitive academically.
PARCC refers to a consortium of states that are cooperating to develop a series of assessments that gauge students' readiness for college and careers. PARCC test samples are available at PARCCOnline.org.
