As of January 2016, a free study companion in PDF format and a free test tutorial are available on ETS.org to help students prepare to take the ParaPro Assessment. Additionally, the website offers a full-length interactive practice test that students can purchase in preparation of the real exam. This practice test is timed in the same manner as the real test, and upon finishing, students have access to their results by category and explanations of the question answers.
Students who purchase the interactive ParaPro Assessment practice test offered through ETS.org should note that there is only one version of the practice exam available as of 2016. Students may opt to repurchase the test for additional practice with the computerized testing environment. However, the questions and question order are the same for each retake.
The ParaPro Assessment is a 2.5-hour exam that certain school districts and regional education offices administer to prospective and practicing paraprofessionals. The test takes place completely on a computer and covers relevant math, reading and writing skills. There are 90 multiple-choice questions on the exam. About two-thirds of the questions test students on basic knowledge and skills, while the remaining one-third measures how well-equipped they are to apply those skills and knowledge in the classroom.
The development of the ParaPro Assessment was in response to the federal requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act.
