Free pain management continuing education units are available through the Nurse CEU website. Although there's a charge for courses that provide multiple CEU hours, many courses that provide one hour or less are free. Available classes include Appropriate Candidates for Opioid Therapy; Fibromyalgia: Prevalence, Diagnosis and Management; two Neuropathic Pain seminars; and the National Meeting Highlights from the American Academy of Pain Medicine. Michigan State University's College of Nursing also offers a free course titled Complimentary Therapies in Pain Management.
Nurse CEU supplies a master list of all available pain management CEU courses that outside websites provide. Most of these websites require registration or login information before users can take courses, regardless of their cost. However, some sites, such as Emerging Solutions in Pain, offer a thorough synopsis of the course, including the target audience, learning objectives, a brief biography of the medical professional who designed the course, and proof of accreditation.
Michigan State University's free CEU course is limited to those licensed as registered nurses. The course focuses on the use of therapeutic touch as a replacement or addition to traditional pain management strategies. It has an accompanying quiz, which students must pass with a score of 80 percent or greater to earn the one-hour CEU credit.
