What Does the P.E.O. Sisterhood Stand For?

The P.E.O. Sisterhood refers to members of P.E.O., which stands for Philanthropic Educational Organization. The organization helps women meet their goals through scholarships and other programs.

Six educational programs are hosted by the P.E.O. each year. These include the Educational Loan Fund (ELF), which provides up to $12,000 for degree programs, and the International Peace Scholarship, which awards $10,000 for members.

To be a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, members must pay annual dues to their local chapter. Membership includes an opportunity to network with other women and participate in local fundraising opportunities. There are approximately 250,000 members of the P.E.O. Sisterhood among the 6,000 chapters in the U.S.
