The Online Flagger Certification Training Course of the American Traffic Safety Services Administration and the Online Traffic Control Persons Course from Leavitt Machinary are two online flagging course options. Students can go to the ATSSA and Leavitt websites to view course descriptions and register for the courses.
The ATSSA's Online Flagger Certification Training Course is a nationwide program that provides analysis and training in traffic flagging and leads to certification upon successful completion. The course is accessible on a 24-hour basis, and comes with an accompanying Flagger Handbook and Flagger Workbook. Specific topics include the importance of proper flagging signals, standard flagger control references, sets of skills for the flagger, identification of flagging procedures and signals and signal variations for different situations. Those who successfully complete the course receive temporary certificates that can be printed, and then real certificates in the mail. Students can click the red Register Now button on the course page to sign up.
Leavitt Machinary's Online Traffic Control Persons Course also leads to a certificate of completion. It covers flagging signals and techniques, legal issues, proper protective equipment and signal variations that depend on the traffic and construction situation. The course also provides regular tests, and an 80 percent score is the minimum requirement for the certificate.
