Babbel and Duolingo are two online programs out of many that teach Spanish. While Babbel and other online learning programs are not free as they generally have subscription prices or other types of fees associated with them, Duolingo is a free language learning program.
Babbel's Spanish courses contain drills and exercises that are centered on grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. It also has advanced courses. For beginners, there is a step-by-step introduction to Spanish course so learners can come up to speed on the most important ideas regarding learning the language. An intermediate course enables learners to practice at a more in-depth level their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Babbel's Spanish iPhone app can be used with the online content for an immersive learning experience.
Duolingo appeared on PC magazine's 2013 list of the "Best Free Language Learning Apps." It was not only an entry; it was the writer's favorite service out of all of the others on the list. The technology site liked the fact that it is a high-quality learning program with no cost to learners. Basic words, grammar and phrases are taught, and then learners practice what they have learned by working on translations of real-world content, such as actual website content. Their fellow Duolingo users then rate their translations.
