Some NYS, or New York Science, earth science labs are Oreo Moon Phases, Stressful Situations and The Egg Drop. These labs give students the ability to learn about the world around them in a hands-on environment.
In the Oreo Moon Phases lab, students use Oreos to create and interpret the phases of the moon. It requires pairs of students, Oreos and butter knives.
Common sandwich makings are put to use in the Stressful Situations lab. Students learn about and explore how the Earth's crust changes through creating faults, mountains and other geologic events.
The Egg Drop lab teaches students to calculate density and how to make scientific predictions. Students have to drop an egg into four different liquids and predict if the egg floats, sinks or suspends.
