Evolve, the resource arm of Elsevier, provides learning materials and student support resources for instructor-led online nursing courses, which include anatomy/physiology, health assessment/physical examination and pathophysiology. These nursing courses and others, such as community/family, dosages and solutions, fundamentals and pharmacology, include teaching modules and interactive exercises. Evolve-supported courses for Licensed Practical and Vocational Nurses are anatomy/physiology, dosages and solutions, nutrition and pharmacology, as of 2015.
Elsevier/Evolve also offers web-based simulation exercises, such as SimChart for nurses, for use in the classroom or a simulation lab. SimChart includes pre-built case studies that unfold as students make clinical decisions with integrated clinical decision support tools, such as drug calculators. The virtual medical office simulation provides students with a first-hand view of patient care from check-in through check-out. This simulation requires students to think critically and make patient care decisions involving diagnosis, documentation, patient education and other student competencies mandated by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.
One way students access Elsevier/Evolve courses is through a traditional classroom model, where the classroom instructor assigns the online course modules and simulations as homework to help students review materials presented in the classroom. In a hybrid model, the online Elsevier modules and interactive simulations become part of the classroom learning, presented and discussed during classes or labs. Some providers of nursing education use Elsevier/Evolve course modules for distance learning, offering courses structured around the Elsevier content and exercises, which are only available online.
