According to Exodus 3:14, the name Jehovah means either "I am what I am," "I will become what I choose to become" or "I will become whatsoever I please." Jehovah is the English variant of the Hebrew name for God, Yahweh.
The meaning of Jehovah is meant to express God's omnipotence, particularly his ability to do whatever is necessary to accomplish his purpose. The Tetragrammaton of hte Greeks, YHWH, was often left unpronounced by the Jewish in ancient times; therefore the original pronunciation of God's name is now unknown. As a result, some Bible translations prefer to express the Tetragrammaton of the Greeks as "Lord," rather than printing the English variation of the name.
