The Common Core focuses on clear academic benchmarks for all students throughout the United States in the subjects of English language arts and mathematics. These standards are in place from kindergarten through the 12th grade and enable all the states implementing these standards to collaborate on a wide range of educational tools, including textbooks and other teaching materials, comprehensive assessment systems and support for educators and schools, to effectively implement the new standards, according to the Common Core State Standards Initiative. The new standards strive to correct the inconsistencies of the previous individual state educational standards by building upon the strengths and lessons already used to create a cohesive, nationwide standard that reflects the expectations of students in college and in the workforce no matter where they may live.
Through these new standards, students are prepared for their futures after high school, according to the Common Core State Standards Initiative. With information incorporated from other top-performing countries, the standards also aim to prepare students for success in the global economy and society.Learn more about Standardized Tests
